After yesterday’s shocking courtroom verdict, George Anthony and Cindy Anthony have received numerous death threats and have gone into hiding. Their lawyer, Mark Lippman, has asked the Orange County Sheriff to investigate.
The jury acquitted Casey Anthony of first-degree murder in the death of her two year old daughter Caylee Anthony. She was found guilty of lying to police, and is likely to spend no more than an additional year behind bars.
Casey and her daughter lived with her parents in Orlando, Florida. Lippman is unsure if his clients will welcome their daughter back into the home once she is released from custody.
The defense claimed that George had molested Casey as a child, causing her to disassociate herself from tragedy. They also claimed that George helped Casey cover up Caylee’s death after she allegedly drown in the family swimming pool.
George and Cindy, who were the first two observers to exit the courtroom after the verdict, released a statement saying: “While the family may never know what happened to Caylee Marie Anthony, they now have closure for this chapter in their life.”
