After two days of deliberating the wrongful-termination claim of former Desperate Housewives actress Nicollette Sheridan, the jury is reportedly “hopelessly deadlocked.”
L.A. County Superior Court Judge Elizabeth White sent the panel of twelve home for the weekend but indicated they must continue their task on Monday.
According to Nicollette’s attorney, they are satisfied with the makeup of the jury which is comprised of nine women and three men. They initially felt that female jurors would be more sympathetic to Sheridan’s plight. Unless nine of the twelve jurors cast their ballot in favor of the actress, the judge will be compelled to declare a hung jury.
Sheridan, 48, is seeking nearly $6 million in damages, claiming that the prime-time show’s executives plotted to kill off her character after she accused creator Marc Cherry of intentionally striking her on the head during a rehearsal.
The judge threw out a battery charge against Cherry earlier in the week for lack of evidence.
Hollywood insiders suggest that a negative verdict could put an end to Sheridan’s career, effectively labeling her untouchable for future work within the industry.
