The Denver Broncos traded Tim Tebow to the New York Jets in a deal that will give them a fourth and sixth round draft pick in 2012. In exchange the Jets will pick up a seventh-round selection.

A former Heisman trophy winner, the 24-year-old athlete has taken a great deal of heat for his public professions of evangelical faith.

Tebow found himself on the trading block Monday after the Broncos picked up free agent Peyton Manning, signing the former Colts QB to a five year, $96 million contract.

While it looked like Tebow might end up with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he will now serve as a backup for Mark Sanchez.

Prior to the trade Sanchez weighed in, “I think Tim will do great no matter what happens. He’s either going to get a great chance to learn from one of the best quarterbacks to ever play, or he moves on somewhere else and he uses his skills at another ball club. He definitely has talent. He knows how to win, he knows how to inspire players.”

Sanchez got a three-year contract extension two weeks ago for a reported $40.5 million.
