Madonna joined Twitter for one day only, answering questions from fans, and directly addressing electronic artist deadmau5 regarding his Facebook rant about her alleged drug reference during a recent performance.
The Material Girl acknowledges that the name of her new album, MDNA, is a triple entendre, telling Jay Leno, that it represents her name, the idea “the DNA of Madonna, and a drug called MDMA (also known as Ecstasy) that produces a “euphoric feeling of love.”
So when Madonna asked the audience at the Ultra music festival if they had seen “Molly,” a well-known slang for ecstasy, it wasn’t much of a stretch to make the leap that she was referencing the drug, setting off the rant from deadmau5.
“Seriously, i giveth not for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy . . . i can appreciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE ? Thats your big message to ultra attendees? Hipster speak for looking for drugs? IDIOT,” deadmau5 posted on Facebook.
Taking the opportunity to address the mouse-head-wearing electro house producer during her 24-hour Twitter stint, Madonna posted a photo of herself wearing mouse ears with the message, “From one mouse to another. I don’t support drug use and I never have. I was referring to the song called ‘Have You Seen Molly’ written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my last album.”
Ignoring that the Gervais song is a strong reference to the drug, the explanation appeased deadmau5, and he thanked Madonna for responding. “fair enough, i was just voicing my concerns as i usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally,” he tweeted.
After a few more tweets between the two, the “feud” was over.
