Charlie Sheen sat down with Matt Lauer on Thursday morning for an exclusive studio interview, taking frequent long gulps from a coffee cup and flinging his arms around in overly expansive hand gestures as they chatted.
Lauer began by telling the former Two and a Half Men actor that a year ago he didn’t hold out much hope for Sheen’s survival. The actor acknowledged that was probably a fair statement.
Looking a little rough around the edges and decidedly twitchy, Sheen discussed his recent “looped” state at the end of a Guns N’ Roses concert. Charlie made light of it and said if he learned anything from the incident it was to use VIP parking next time in order to escape the paparazzi.
The Today Show host pointed out the obvious, “I don’t know one addiction specialist who would say it is OK to drink.” That brought a shrug from his guest.
On the subject of lingering bitterness about the way he was fired and the disparaging comments he slung at Ashton Kutcher, the actor waved Matt off with hand gestures before responding, “I just wish they’d taken better care of the child I left behind.”
Anger Management will premiere on the FX Channel on June 28. Charlie made a contrast between his old sitcom and the new one, “So far, eight days on Anger was more fun than eight years on Men.”
