‘American Idol’ judge Randy Jackson released a statement yesterday indicating he won’t be returning.

He said, “To put all of the speculation to rest, after 12 years of judging on ‘American Idol,’ I have decided to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry.”

The 56-year-old producer and bassist made his ‘Idol’ debut in 2002 on a panel that included Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. The easygoing judge became famous for his trademark “yo, dawg” banter with contestants.

Despite the addition of Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban this season, ratings have been in the tank with many previously loyal fans now gravitating to ‘The Voice.’

Randy’s long anticipated departure leaves host Ryan Seacrest as the only original cast member remaining.

They say that timing is everything. That said, it seems likely the show will give Randy a heroes sendoff next week during the final showdown between Candice Glover and Kree Harrison.
