Professional soccer star David Beckham has decided to go out on top, announcing his retirement from the sport after leading Paris St.-Germain to a championship title earlier this week.

The 38-year-old helped win multiple titles while playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy before hooking up with Paris St.-Germain for the 2013 season.

Victoria Beckham tweeted a photo that she captioned, “Congratulations@PSG – inside!!! We r so happy!! x vb”

Beckham released this statement, “I’m thankful to P.S.G. for giving me the opportunity to continue, but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level.”

“I want to thank all my teammates, the great managers that I had the pleasure of learning from. I also want to thank the fans who have all supported me and given me the strength to succeed.”

The tattooed athlete and successful male model married former ‘Spice Girls’ musician and fashionista Victoria Beckham in 1999. Their three sons and one daughter are: Brooklyn, 13, Romeo, 10, Cruz, 7 and Harper, nearly 2.

Fun Fact: the Beckham’s have a combined net worth estimated at $300 million.
