Another Hollywood couple bites the dust! Actor Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have split after 10 years of marriage.
A rep for the couple told PEOPLE, “Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time. Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”
Idina and Taye met while co-starring in the original production of the Broadway musical ‘Rent’ in the 1990’s. They wed in 2003 and she gave birth to their son Walker in 2009.
Earlier this year Menzel said during an interview, “We work at it. I’m not going to glamorize it or glorify it – we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate.”
She won a Tony Award for ‘Wicked’ the same year she got married. Diggs is the co-artistic director of a dance company, Dre.dance, with fellow Broadway veteran and School of the Arts alumnus Andrew Palermo.
He’ll star in a new detective drama series ‘Murder in the First’ set to air summer 2014. TNT has ordered 10 episodes.
Fun Fact: Diggs apprehended a burglar in his home after returning from the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 27, holding him captive until police arrived.
