The Associated Press has tallied the results of their annual survey for AP Entertainer of the Year and the 2013 winner by a nose is actress and fashion icon Jennifer Lawrence.
A total of 70 ballots were submitted by U.S. editors and news directors who were asked to consider who had the most influence on entertainment and culture in 2013.
The ‘Hunger Games’ star garnered 15 votes, narrowly beating out ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer Miley Cyrus, who received 14. Coming in third was the on-demand Internet streaming media giant Netflix, with 13.
Lawrence won an Academy Award for best actress in January for her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in the popular franchise ‘The Hunger Games.’ She is also receiving critical acclaim for her latest film, ‘American Hustle.’
The red carpet favorite favors Dior and recently debuted an edgy new pixie haircut that was well received by the masses.
Pennsylvania news editor Kristi Runyan, who cast her ballot for Jennifer, remarked, “The 23-year-old actress is not only talented and beautiful, but comes off as incredibly intelligent, genuine, funny and well-spoken in her public appearances and interviews. It’s refreshing to see a young woman not squandering her talent and success by succumbing to the temptations that many do in Hollywood and who actively speaks about the ridiculous behavior of some of her peers.”
Jim Turpin explained why he grudgingly voted for Miley Cyrus, “She made the biggest splash, without comment on whether I thought it was a good thing.”
The past seven winners include Adele, Lady Gaga, Tina Fey, Betty White, Taylor Swift and the lone male in the group, Stephen Colbert.
