Our favorite local news industry monitor Richard Huff doesn’t only cover the ups and downs of WCBS &ndsah; where former NBC News anchor Kristine Johnson is the new shining star – but the, ahem, ups and downs of WPIX, the local CW affiliate. That’s “ups and downs” in the most literal of terms. Billed as an awareness effort for breast cancer research, the CW11 Morning News was taken over by women jumping around on springs wearing only bras (by Maidenform) above the waist and hosted by the uncomfortably horny Larry Hoff.
“It’s amazing,” Craig Treadway said, “to watch them defy gravity.”
No one looks to Hoff for hard news, it’s not what he does. But yesterday’s bra promo, while billed many times as doing good for a “big cause” (insert your own joke here) also felt like too much of a freebie for Maidenform.
“It weighs 20% to 30% less than other bras,” a spokeswoman said a couple of times during the multiple live remotes. Hoff also also wore the undergarment for the last spot on the show. […]
Joking aside, the lightweight issue was so deeply incorporated into the show that even the silly on-air trivia question, usually posed by Linda Church, but yesterday by Joe Cioffi, was tied to gravity.
Throughout the piece, Hoff also touted videos from the segment on the station’s Web site as if he were pushing porn.
“I think you’re going to like it,” Hoff said, pitching to those who can’t get enough of women bouncing in, oh yeah, properly fitted bras.
To be sure, it pales in comparison to new GMA weatherman Sam Champion damn near choking with “oohs” while cooking sausage.
