Last week’s American Idol Power Poll certainly didn’t forecast a Michael Johns elimination. Then again, who did?
We had actually ranked Johns second for the first time all season, slotted between the two dominating Davids of the competition, Cook and Archuleta. How will his departure affect this week’s standings? Let’s take a look…
1. David Cook: Even a subpar performance by this versatile singer, as his routine last week was strongly considered, is still better than most. We were also moved by his “Give Back” gesture.
2. David Archuleta (pictured): We still have trouble picturing this youngster selling any records, but if the title is given to the best pure singer, one can’t deny Archuleta’s talent.
3. Brooke White: Expect an impressive performance from Brooke during this week’s Mariah Carey-themed show. It’s easy to see this folk singer at the piano, emotionally crooning one of the pop diva’s classic ballads.
4. Carly Smithson: Needs a big performance after falling into the bottom three a week ago.
5. Jason Castro: If White could be considered the next Carly Simon, Castro might be the next James Taylor. Just with far more hair.
On the Block: Kristy Lee Cook, Syesha Mercado
