Taylor Swift has officially blinked.
The pop superstar just apologized to Nicki Minaj on Twitter, putting an end to their unexpected and surprisingly heated VMA-oriented beef.
Tweeting to Minaj, she wrote simply, "I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki."
Awww. *Sniff* So that’s that?
Whether or not Katy Perry is winning the war against Taylor or not, Swift is bowing down and ceding defeat against this particular foe.
Did Swift take the high road because she was in over her head? Or did she truly feel bad and like she overstepped earlier this week?
It’s unclear, and may be a little of both, but her words suggest that she accepts Nicki’s explanation about her anti-VMA Twitter rant.
"If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated," Minaj tweeted after being notably snubbed by the VMAs.
Swift then came out firing, writing "@NickiMinaj I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other."
Nicki responded that she never said a word about Taylor, and that Swift missed the point, though she didn’t say who she was targeting.
Later, Katy Perry called Taylor a hypocrite, implicitly, for criticizing Nicki when Swift’s "Bad Blood" video celebrates girl-on-girl feuding.
It’s all water under the bridge now, though – at least between Taylor and Nicki, who responded to Swift’s apology in heartfelt fashion.
"That means so much Taylor, thank you," Minaj wrote, adding three <3 emoticons and later reflecting on her short-lived adversary.
"I’ve always loved her," Nicki said of Tay. "Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let’s move on."
While we certainly would have enjoyed the virtual carnage if this had continued, give the ladies credit for their amicable resolution.
As for these feuds …
