It did take some unusual events to arrive there this week, however, namely Rick going on four nights without sleep because he was stressing over how he and Kate would move on from his disappearance.

As much as Rick wanted to figure out how to fix the situation,, he wondered if Beckett somehow would have been better off if they had never met, especially after she turned down Will Sorenson’s wedding invitation.

Enter a scenario taken from "It’s a Wonderful Life."

Castle imagined a world in which Ryan never married Jenny and Lanie and Esposito never got back together. What is Beckett never solved her mom’s murder?

Heck, what if the coffee still tasted terrible because Castle never gift that expensive espresso machine?!?

Martha was thriving as a Broadway diva in this universe, while Alexis had black hair and had moved to Los Angeles.

As for Rick? He never wrote Nikki Heat. He’d spent his fortune and his writing career fell apart. Worst of all, this version of Kate Beckett disappointed him. She no drive, no desire to fight for justice.

Yes, apparently everything really could been this different for everyone if another detective had caught the Allison Tisdale murder case six years ago.

Castle then awoke from this nightmare and asked Kate to marry him. Again. Right then and there. THAT’S how they would move on as a couple.

Only Jim, Martha and Alexis attended the intimate ceremony, which took place in the Hamptons and only lasted five minutes.

But it featured beautiful vows, such as Beckett saying Rick made her life “extraordinary” and taught her how to be her “best self,” with Castle referring to Kate as the “joy in my heart.”

Someone pass the Kleenex, please!

As Mr. and Mrs. Castle danced to “In My Veins” under a setting sun in the Hamptons, hearts and spirits soared around the country. Totally perfect in every way.
