Here is a story we did not think we’d be writing about today.

It’s also a story we’d be happy to never write about again.

But the facts are the facts and the facts are these: a mother and daughter got arrested recently in Oklahoma on charges of incest.

Authorities discovered that they were married.

To each other.

For real.

This troubling information about Patricia Spann, 43, and her 25-year old daughter, Misty, came to light during a child welfare investigation last month.

While digging into Patricia’s past, officials also learned she had been married to her son in 2008, but that union had was annulled 15 months later.

The motivation behind the marriages is unclear.

But the mental capacity of all involved has to be called into question, right?

State court records prove that mother and daughter were married in Comanche County in March.

Similar records also show a marriage between Patricia and son Jody Spann that, as mentioned above, was annulled in 2010.

Under Oklahoma law, marrying a close relative is considered incest whether the relationship is of a sexual nature or not, the Associated Press confirms.

Patricia Spann reportedly told child service investigators that she had lost custody of her three children at some point and that they were eventually adopted by their paternal grandmother.

Approximately two years ago, Patricia reunited with her daughter and believed it was okay to get married because her name was NOT on Misty’s birth certificate.

She believed it was legal, we ought to say.

Because there’s no way this was okay under any circumstances.

KTLA reports that Patricia told authorities she “hit it off” with her daughter upon meeting her again.

Mother and daughter appeared in Stephens County district court on Wednesday and the are both being held on $10,000 bail.

We’re very sorry that you just had to read about that.
