The anticipation for Star Wars Episode 7 is at a fever pitch, and the film won’t hit theaters for another eight months.
With all the hype surrounding The Force Awakens, many fans may not even realize that in addition to the planned trilogy to be directed by JJ Abrams a slew of Star Wars "standalone" films are slated to hit theaters over the next few years.
The first of those features (commonly referred to as Episode 8, even though it won’t be an official installment in the ongoing Skywalker saga) will be directed by Brick and Breaking Bad auteur Rian Johnson and will hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
Little was known about the far, far away flick until today, when Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the first official details to shareholders.
According to Iger, the film will be titled The Rogue One and will star British actress Felicity Jones, best known for her recent performance in the Oscar-nominated The Theory of Everything.

According to one of the many, many Star Wars fansites online, "Rogue One" is the call sign given to the leader of an elite Rebel Alliance flight team known as Rogue Squadron.
Naturally, plot details are still a long way away, but we have out fingers crossed hoping that Jones will play a badass X-Wing fighter battling the evil forces of the Empire.
Sadly, we won’t find out if that’s the case for quite some time. Meanwhile, we’ll hold ourselves over by watching The Force Awakens trailer on repeat.
