We all knew Rosie O’Donnell’s return to The View would result in some major drama, but we figured she would direct most of her rage at resident right-winger Elisabeth Hasselbeck  Nicolle Wallace.

But according to witnesses at a recent taping, Rosie’s got it in for Whoopi Goldberg, who she apparently feels has gotten a big head since taking over for Barbra Walters as moderator, following Walters’ retirement  earlier this year.

The story goes that Rosie was holding court on the topic of using physical punishments such as spanking on children.

O’Donnell reportedly refuses to wear an ear piece during taping, so she’s the last to know when a commercial break is coming up. Goldberg interrupted her rant to go to commercial and that’s when Rosie lost it:

“As soon as they went to commercial break, Rosie took the handheld microphone that they use to engage the audience,” says one witness.

“Instead of talking to the audience, Rosie spoke directly to Whoopi in the mic and [said] she was ‘very upset’ and ‘didn’t appreciate’ what Whoopi had done.”

Whoopi apparently tried to smooth things over, repeatedly telling Rosie that it’s “not the time for this.”

O’Donnell persisted, which prompted Goldberg to fire back in epic fashion:

“F–k it, I told you to leave it alone and you don’t want to listen,” Whoopi reportedly shouted at Rosie. “If you want to go there Rosie, I will dammit. I’m really sick of your sh-t!”

Wow. Guess you can be on the same page as Rosie politically and still grow tired of her steamrolling over your every conversation.
