Stockton, Calif., man Jeremy Meeks has become a quasi-celebrity online thanks to his mug shot, in which the alleged criminal smolders in front of the police camera.

What a world.

Meeks has attracted more than 24,000 likes and 6,000 comments on the Stockton Police’s Facebook page since getting popped on weapons charges.

He was snared in the department’s Operation Ceasefire sweep, conducted due to a recent increase in shootings and robberies in the Weston Ranch area.

While the charges against Jeremy Meeks and three others arrested in the operation are no laughing matter, people posting comments on his picture are loving it.

A commenter summed up the feelings of many observers with the remark, “Could have been a model, a[n] actor!” Instead, “What bad decisions he made.”

One hashtagged the picture #hottiethug, while another woman pointed out his “beautiful eyes” and said she wanted to be locked up with him any day.

We assume (and hope) she’s kidding.

Another suggested a spinoff series called The Bachelor in Jail if he was the leading man, which we have to admit we would probably watch at this point.

There’s not a lot on in the summer.
