Philip Seymour Hoffman to Be Digitally Added to Mockingjay Part 2

by at .

At the time of his death, Philip Seymour Hoffman had completed filming on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

But the actor - who came on board Catching Fire in the role of head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee - still had a few scenes remaining when he died of a heroin overdose last week.

According to Page Six, however, Lionsgate will not recast the actor or even cut key scenes from the final installment of The Hunger Games franchise.

They will actually add him in via CGI.

“You can do digital things, you can have conversations where you’re not focusing on him but the people he’s talking to,” an insider tells The Hollywood Reporter of how this will be accomplished.

It should be interesting to see, although very sad, of course, that it needs to be done.

Appearing on Today this week, Elizabth Banks expressed surprise and sadness over the loss of her big screen co-star.

"I really am in shock," she said. "He is an absolutely amazing actor, respected by everyone and part of our family at The Hunger Games."
