Less is often more on American Idol.
So with the singing competition only airing a one-hour episode on Thursday, viewers didn’t need to deal with any terrible auditions, any extended montages, any wastes of time at all.
It was pretty much strong audition after strong audition, continuing the Season 13 practice of actually showcasing talent. Crazy, right?!?
Which contestants made the best first impressions? Let’s rundown the top five…
Jesse Cline works as a late-shift gas attendant and killed a version of “Washed by the Water.” The judges were all about his “believability.”
Lauren Ogborn rocked a bandana and a flag and was told by awesome Harry Connick Jr. that she had “overaccessorized to the point of ridicule.” But she then made us forget all about that with her take on “Fancy.”
Bria Anai was only 15 and yet covered Adele with talent and confidence. She also rocked some seriously purple lipstick, as you can see here:
Majesty Rose has an amazing name. But he also has a voice to match, as we found on via a rendition of “Violet Hill.” She has a unique style, plays the guitar and is Australian! We love it.
Jessica Meuse must know we are suckers for an original song and she supplied one with “Blue-Eyed Lie.” Terrific tone and grit and an attitude that had her saying she’ll either die “a successful musician or a broke one.” A unanimous Golden Ticket recipient, for good reason.
