When it comes to those who have been critical of her weight, Jennifer Lopez has the same message as Jennifer Lawrence:

Shut the eff up!

In an interview with Cosmos for Latinas, the actress says she’s always remained strong in the face of criticism… but it hasn’t been easy.

“Early on, my family really made me love who I was and what I looked like,”J. Lo tells the magazibe. “My body was nothing out of the ordinary in my neighborhood.

“When I first started on television [as a Fly Girl on In Living Color], people, and even my own manager at the time, would tell me I had to make all of these changes. But you have to stand up and say, ‘There’s nothing wrong with me or my shape or who I am, you’re the one with the problem!'”

Amen, Jen!

The American Idol judge goes on to say it’s all about self-confidence, something she hopes young women around the world learn for themselves.

“When you can really believe that,” she says, “all of a sudden other people start believing too.”

Of course, it also helps to have a strong, supportive family. Lopez understands that and gives thanks for that.

“I love the family that I grew up in, the strength and passion and the heart that we bring to things and then the way I was raised – the intense love we demonstrate,” she says.
