Leah Remini has confirmed that she has indeed broken ranks with the Church of Scientology, thanking her fans for their positivity and support.
The 43-year-old released a statement last night, saying:
“I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and fans from around the world.”
“I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support.”
Leah Remini did not comment on any of the specifics of a Page Six report that detailed her contentious break from Scientology, the controversial religion.
According to the report, Remini threatened to call police after “her many unanswered questions” about the whereabouts of leader David Miscavige’s wife, Shelly.
Her inquiries led to the actress being interrogated for years.
“When you ask a question like that, you are immediately hauled in, interrogated and asked, ‘Why, who are you connected to, are you going on the Internet?’” said a source.
Page Six reported Thursday that Remini also took issue with treatment of its Sea Org members and Scientology trying to “disconnect” people from families.
The Church, whose most famous member is Tom Cruise, denies these allegations but declined to comment on the departure of Leah Remini specifically.
