Osborn was played by Willem DaFoe, who definitely shares a similar look with Cooper, in the Sam Raimi trilogy. In that series, the character becomes the villainous Green Goblin, and reports are that Cooper's Osborn will do the same, either in this film or the next one.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, and Martin Sheen will return to their roles, with Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley, and Dane DeHaan joining on.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit theaters May 2, 2014.

Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field (who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Lincoln), and Martin Sheen. Sony Pictures has found someone to follow in the webbed footsteps of Tobey Maguire.

Little-known actor Andrew Garfield has won the coveted role, as the franchise is looking for a reboot. It will take us back to a time long before Peter Parker gained his special abilities.

A-Gar

Garfield was born in Los Angeles, but raised in England. He appeared in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and will co-star with Justin Timberlake in the upcoming Facebook-based film Social Network. He received a BAFTA in 2008 for his performance in Boy A.

Said director Marc Webb:

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity.”

What do you think? Can you picture Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man?

Tobey Maguire is out of Spider-Man 4.

Rumors say that Robert Pattinson might be in.

When asked if he'd take on the role of Peter Parker, Zac Efron sounded more than up for it:

"I don’t know what the chances are to be honest. I assume they’re pretty slim. It’s a long-shot, but if it came down to it, it’d be a dream come true. What young actor wouldn’t?”

A good question. Which likely means many rising stars will be considered for the role. Who do you think should end up with it?

As Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson tried to resist the urge to bed Bella Swan.

As one of the most sought after young actors in Hollywood, though, will Pattinson be able to resist the calling of another major movie franchise?

Following the news that Spider-Man 4 will reboot the series - doing away with Tobey Maguire as the lead and focusing on Peter Parker as a high school student - one question has been floating around Tinseltown:

Who will step into the costume of this webbed wonder?

Without quoting any sources or providing factual information of any kind, OK! Weekly claims Pattinson is a contender for the iconic role. Could this be true? Sure.

Could it also be another example of this tabloid making up a story about Robert in order to create buzz for itself? Most definitely.

Reportedly, Michael Cera and Chace Crawford are also being considered for the role of Peter Parker.

While Pattinson's schedule is jammed with movies - he starts shooting Bel Ami with Uma Thurman in February; and begins production on Breaking Dawn in 2010 - one thing is for sure:

The guy would look good in tights! Do you wanna see Robert as Spider-Man?

Note to Hollywood: there are two ways to tell if it's time to end a successful franchise.

  1. When it's latest edition is universally panned by critics.
  2. When there's so much drama behind the scenes of a planned follow-up that the entire script is scrapped, the director replaced and the stars given the axe.

Such is the case with Spider-Man 4, as Sony Pictures has announced a reboot to the franchise. The fourth installment in this series - very tentatively scheduled for a summer 2012 release - will bid farewell to Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and feature Peter Parker as a high school student.

Wrote the movie studio in a supposedly optimistic statement:

"A decade ago we set out on this journey with [director[ Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire, and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box office, and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise.

"Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We're very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots."

Are you excited over this new Spider-Man 4 concept?

Or tired of Hollywood sticking to the same sequels and franchises every summer?

The battle between Paris Hilton and Linsday Lohan has nothing on this summer's box office blitz.

Some of your favorite on-screen heroes will be back for second and third adventures. The celebrity gossip world is abuzz over which will reign supreme.

Final Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

First up, Tobey Maguire will don a suit and a web once more in Spider-Man 3. Thomas Hayden Church will be among the enemies he attempts to do away with this time around, as the lovely Mary Jane Watson (aka Kirsten Dunst) remains by his side.

Speaking of attractive, the summer of 2007 welcomes everyone's favorite ogre back into our lives. We hear that Shrek is asked to be king of Far, Far Away in the franchise's third film. Sounds like fun to us! Especially with Melanie Brown's baby's daddy (aka Eddie Murphy) returning to voice Donkey.

Yarr, but will that be enough to slay Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow at the box office? Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End will hopefully be an improvement over the awful second installment in this trilogy.

Finally, the boy magician will do all he can to cast a spell over these blockbusters. Harry Potter returns - and he has a serious Order of a Phoenix to deal with.

Of course, if none of these films gets you excited, remember: the Olivia Mojica sex tape comes out next week.

We know how excited you are about still images of Kim Kardashian nude from her sex tape with Ray J. Put those out of your mind for a moment, though, and focus on exciting new movie shots from Spider-Man 3. The film hits theaters this summer.

But you don't need to wait any longer to see how Tobey Maguire looks in black as our favorite webbed super hero. The answer: sleek, sexy and on the prowl for bad guys.

In the upcoming movie, one of those bad guys is played by Thomas Haden Church. He's best known at the moment for his role in Sideways, but that should change after he plots something evil against Spider-Man and his love, Mary Jane, in a couple months.

That part is played by Kirsten Dunst, of course. We couldn't track down any pics of her right now, though. Probably because she's too busy dating every single actor in Hollywood.

Fans still need to wait another few months until Spider-Man 3 hits the big screen.

But they needn't wait another second to play their own version of the movie at home.

The latest action figures from what should be the summer's biggest movie are on sale now. They don't look too much like Tobey Maguire, but we guess that's the point. Peter Parker needs his identity to remain a mystery.

No toys for the character of Kirsten Dunst yet, either. But we'll let you know a line of MJ figures are on the shelves.

We're not talking about that kind of MJ, Mischa Barton.

At least one person doesn't need to bid on the pants of Jake Gyllenhaal.

Kirsten Dunst Image

After all, Kirsten Dunst has already been inside of them. Sometimes, in very public places.

But we'll leave sexcapades and debates to Nick Carter and Ashlee Simpson. Dunst wants to talk about rumors that Spider-man 3 had to be re-shot.

"I haven't yet no, but I think there are some blue screen things. Nothing major," the actress that portrays Mary Jane Watson said about new scenes being shot.

In the third installment of Peter Parker's adventures, Dunst will be joined by Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard). They compete for Spidey's affections, but got along well off screen.

"It's so funny. Everyone asks me that like it's a competitive thing, but Bryce and I got along better than anybody," she said. "I was happy to have another girl to share all of that testosterone with. It was nice to come to set and have a girl to hang out with.

Her character adds another type of woman that puts Peter in a position obviously with conflict with me and lying and this and all of those things just to create more drama in our relationships."

Dunst added it was nice to have a year in between the last film and the upcoming one.

"It was nice to have that year because I was really excited to go back to work again. I love working with [Director Sam Remi] and coming back to a place where you know everybody, which is a good thing because you're confident. You're not afraid to give your opinions on anything like lighting or whatever it is.

You're there with your team again. It's a long movie so when you start doing the blue screen things and you're just lying there and reacting to all of these things and these long takes, you feel like you're losing your mind. But, when it comes to the scenes and Sam it's all about that for him. That doesn't feel like I'm making anything less important than this film."

Spider-Man 3 hits theaters on May 4, 2007.
