The same can’t be said for Entertainment Tonight. The supposedly venerable celebrity gossip show still won’t face the facts when it comes to Angelina Jolie giving birth; or NOT giving birth, to be precise.

“We still don’t know if she’s had those babies or not and until we do we won’t retract our story. I don’t know yet that we’ve made a mistake,” host Mary Hart recently said.

Hart makes this statement despite the fact that Brad Pitt was in a different country from Jolie when she supposedly gave birth to twins; and that Brangelina’s publicist has denied the report.

“I hope that the babies were born when we said they were and that we had our facts straight. I have never retracted a story in 26 years, but all I can do now is wait and see,” Hart said.

It’s a genius move by Hart. She’ll wait, she’ll see that the babies are eventually born and - presto! - Entertainment Tonight’s report will be verified.

This is the best plan since Linda Hogan decided to date 19-year Charlie Hill as vengeance for being cheated on.

The competitive world of celebrity gossip reached its apex when Entertainment Tonight confirmed on its website that Angelina Jolie had given birth to twins.

Another tabloid actually published the names of the two new additions to the Brangelina brood. There was just one problem:

No births had taken place.

Eventually, however, Jolie and Brad Pitt will welcome a pair of babies into their family and, when they do, TMZ is reporting that the bidding for the first pictures of these kids has reached $15 million.

“We’d love to see the photos in People. We wish the family well,” said a rep for People Magazine, while OK! acknowledged it would “foolish” not to make a play for the pics.

Brad and Angelina will give the cash to charity, making us hope the bidding does go higher and higher. We do wonder, however, when the madness will end.

The sky is the limit when it comes to how much money celebrities are being paid to pimp out their babies in celebrity news and gossip magazines nowadays.

After paying Christina Aguilera $1.5 million in February for shots of her newborn son, Max, People shelled out a whopping $6 million to Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony for photos of their newborn twins, Max and Emme.

One celebrity news editor, who asked to remain anonymous, said:

“It’s at the point now where some stars might decide to have more kids just to collect the money from their photos.”

Pregnant celebrities are now “treating this like a game,” said National Enquirer Executive Editor Barry Levine.

“It’s become big business now,” Levine said. “It’s outrageous, they’ve gotten very sophisticated. The rights are bought up now even before the celebrity enters the hospital. They hire extra security so it’s impossible to obtain a photo illegally.”

Brangelina made (then gave away) millions from selling photos of Shiloh.

Levine said stars now realize that having a child in this celebrity news media era is “akin to getting a role in a movie.”

Celebrity gossip publications don’t mind - they recoup money over time with magazine sales, Web hits, and by re-selling the photos overseas.

Angelina Jolie, rumored to be carrying twins, could trump all celebrities by commanding $10 million for the first photos of the babies, Levine said.

“That’s where the market is right now,” he said. “When I was the editor of Star in L.A., we bought photos of Lisa Marie Presley’s baby back in 1989 for $100,000, and at the time I thought it was outrageous. Now it’s chump change.”

American Media Editorial Director Bonnie Fuller said that the celebrity baby photo payouts just keep escalating: “If J.Lo really did get $6 million, then I think Angelina can now command $8 million,” Fuller said. “The magazines must look at it as a long-term investment, but I think it’ll cap out at a certain point.”

According to Us Weekly, adopting a child and helping with rebuilding efforts in New Orleans earns a couple more points than posing naked, starring in a record-breaking movie and paying celebrity gossip photographers to snap contrived pictures of yourselves making out, on the beach, in pumpkin patches…

For shame.

The drawn out complaint above is based on the fact that the tabloid has named Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as its couple of the year. Its reasoning?

“America couldn’t stop watching Jolie and Pitt as they juggled two hot careers and went from three kids to four (Pax, 4, joined in March)…”

We’re big fans of Brangelina, but they’re so 2006. This year truly belonged to a pair of younger, over-exposed couples:

• Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens
• Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag

Told of the snub - even Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes beat he and Montag out for second place - Pratt said:

“Brangelina can have this award. I still have an angel in Heidi Montag, the most beautiful girl in the entire world. Plus I will be running for governor of California in 2010.”

You may never get to see Angelina Jolie nude. But you will have a chance to lick the body of this gorgeous actress.

The Australian government is coming out with a postage stamp of the world’s best looking couple. No, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, we’re certainly not talking about you.

But The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Jolie, Brad Pitt and daughter Shiloh, will be reproduced from the cover of New Idea magazine and slapped onto a 50 cent stamp. We assume Maddox and Pax Thien are outraged by the snub.

A New Idea spokesman said: “These stamps will become instantly collectible and sought after by philatelists around the country.”

That’s a fancy word for “stamp collectors.” The same way that “Tyraists” is a fancy word for those that enjoy seeing Tyra Banks nude.

Did the Brangelina birthday celebration for Angelina Jolie match what the family put together for Shiloh Nouvel last month?

It would appear that way, as Brad Pitt went all-out to celebrate his lovely ladyfriend’s 32nd birthday on June 4, filling their home in L.A.’s Los Feliz neighborhood with flowers.

He also surprised her with a gold ring adorned with the birthstones of their four children - Shiloh, Zahara, Maddox and Pax Thien - and treated her to a very special meal.

“He cooked an AMAZING dinner,” a Jolie friend tells Us magazine. “She was so excited, she talked about [Brad's gifts] all day!”

Because waking up next to that gorgeous man every day isn’t enough of a gift on its own.

Although they hit the red carpet together at the L.A. premiere of Ocean’s Thirteen the next day, Pitt passed on the film’s June 7 premiere in Chicago and instead joined Jolie for dinner with the father of Daniel Pearl (the slain reporter on whom her drama A Mighty Heart is based).

It was an important evening for the couple, one Jennifer Aniston is probably better off not reading about.

Then again, she has a stud muffin of her own to be spoiled by these days in the form of Paul Sculfor.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s latest family addition has officially taken their surnames.

A Santa Monica court on Thursday approved Pax Thien Jolie’s name change to Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt, a court clerk confirms to People magazine. The name is a mouthful, but at least the child is adorable. And visible, unlike Jayden James Federline.

Pax, 3, was adopted from a Vietnamese orphanage in March, joining Pitt and Jolie’s children Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and Shiloh, 1.

Because Vietnamese law makes it difficult for unmarried couples to adopt, Jolie adopted Pax on her own, but he is being raised by both her and Pitt. In April, Jolie formally requested that the court change her new son’s name to Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.

In January 2006, after Jolie made a similar request in the same court, her other adopted children, Maddox and Zahara, were officially named Jolie-Pitt. The decisions have worked out, at least according to celebrity gossip fans.

After all, Jolie is not currently receiving many votes on our Worst Celebrity Mother poll.

Brad Pitt may need to stop playing the doting father role to Shiloh and Pax Thien for a few minutes.

If the hunky actor doesn’t look up soon, he may never see the other half of Brangelina is his arms again.

After all, check out what transpired on the afternoon of April 27: Angelina Jolie made her directorial debut at the Tribeca Film Festival with her documentary about daily life around the globe, A Place in Time.

But Jolie’s real show, however, didn’t begin until later that night.

After an official bash at Hotel Gansevoort – where the star drank wine and, a source tells Us Magazine, was “really outgoing and very chatty” – the supposed stay-at-home mom headed to a small VIP afterparty at nearby eatery Gin Lane.

Among the guests there? Actor Olivier Martinez, a participant in the documentary and her costar in the awful 2004 thriller Taking Lives, with whom Jolie reportedly had a fling at the time. It would be like Stavros Niarchos running into Paris Hilton. Or Mary-Kate Olsen. Or Hilary Duff.

But back to Angelina: Encouraged by a group of drummers, the actress eventually began waving her arms around. But it wasn’t until Jolie started dancing for Martinez that things got really wild.

“She turned to him on the banquette and was shaking it in front of him. She was giving him a lap dance, ” said a witness. “She was looking over her shoulder, tossing a glance his way.”

Another partygoer describes it as “very, very flirty.”

Which makes us very, very concerned. Sure, this could be an exaggerated piece of celebrity gossip … but what if it’s not? What if the most beautiful couple in the world doesn’t make it? Who can we look to next as the model relationship?

It’s a battle of Hollywood vs. Bollywood!

While most readers are familiar with the pair known as “Brangelina” in the States, a contender is emerging from abroad for the title of Hottest, Coolest Couple on the Planet. And no, it isn’t David and Victoria Beckham.

Over the weekend, Bollywood stars Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan finally tied the knot after months of hype.

And while Bachchan didn’t cheat on Jennifer Aniston during his courtship of the former Miss World, the love birds are still being compared to a certain powerful pair of actors in America.

Does Angelina Jolie have the strength to compete with Aishwarya after months spent adopting another child and not eating? And can Brad Pitt stave off the popularity of Abhishek? Or is the Hollywood hunk too busy playing the role of cute father to Shiloh Nouvel?

Only time will tell. In the meantime, Katie Price, her huge boobs and her husband, Peter Andre, will be doing all they can to make a similarly big name for themselves across the world.
