After months of rumors, we finally have confirmation that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o has been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII.
Lucasfilm made the announcement today along with news that Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie will also appear in the film.
While most of the cast of Star Wars Episode VII was revealed in April, rumors that Nyong'o and Zac Efron had been secretly offered roles continued to circulate.
While there is still no studio confirmation or denial of Efron's part in the movie, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke with the press today about the two newest additions to the cast of 2015's most highly-anticipated film.
"I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," said Kennedy. "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble take shape."
A virtual unknown just a year ago, Nyong'o took home the best actress Oscar in March for her role in 12 Years a Slave.
Christie is best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth on GoT.
As is the case with most Star Wars news, this tidbit of information raises more questions than it answers and fans all over the world are already speculating as to what sort of role each actress will play.
