John Ingle died Sunday at the age of 84.

On Monday, the actor best known for his work on General Hospital was remembered as a "Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer and Mentor" by his family in a touching Facebook post.

"May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts," his family wrote, as tributes from his peers poured in.

Frank Valentini, executive producer of the daytime soap, took to Twitter to share thoughts on the passing of the star that brought Edward Quartermaine to life:

"With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle's passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family."

Ingle made his final appearance on the show just last week. John's wife, Grace-Lynne Martin, passed away in February 2012. They had five children together.

You were the best Edward Q. Your wife and my Mom passed in the same month. So I know how much you must have missed her. I am so very happy that you are now reunited with her. You will be missed. You were a wonderful actor and an inspiration to the industry.

I just saw him on gh in a scene-"Edward was @ the hospital". I didn't think he looked well, his face looked thin. He was a great actor, very entertaining. I hope that the Edward character passes as well, GH just lucked out having 2 fabulous actors in that role, I don't feel they could have another successful recast. RIP, MR. ENGLE...

He was as great as the original Edward Quartermaine, and that never happens on soaps. He will be missed. RIP.
