Richie Sambora is checking into rehab, according to reports.

The guitar great is coming off a highly successful tour with Bon Jovi, but will be checking into a rehab facility for exhaustion and to regain his sobriety.

He spent time at Cirque Lodge in Utah in 2007 after his marriage to Heather Locklear unraveled, he split with girlfriend Denise Richards and his father died of lung cancer. That's a lot in such a short period of time. But why now?

”Richie recently has been drinking too much, and wants to get his life together," a source told Radar Online, saying the band is supportive of the decision.

"Richie has had a busy year," a close friend said. "I think this was a culmination of all the things that overloaded his life, and he needs to care of himself.”

It was not immediately clear how Sambora's treatment will affect his role in Bon Jovi, which will continue to tour the U.S. and Europe this summer.

Here's wishing him a full and speedy recovery back to health.

I am sure there will be people who are ignorant or have never known what it's like to be addicted to something, make comments like he's a loser or worse. But, at least he is trying to get help. That is a step in the right direction. All I can do is wish him success in that department because if he doesn't overcome this problem it will consume him forever and there is so much more to life.
