Jennifer Lopez Eliminates Chris Medina, Breaks Down

Five singers advanced to the semifinals on season 10 of American Idol last night:

  1. Naima Adedapo
  2. Clint Jun Gamboa
  3. Ashthon Jones
  4. Paul McDonald
  5. Haley Reinhart

But many viewers are talking this morning about one contestant who did NOT make the cut: Chris Medina, whose story of heartbreak regarding his brain damaged fiancee was featured on the show a couple weeks ago.

Jennifer Lopez delivered the bad news to Chris, tearing up as she explained the panel's decision and then breaking down in front of Randy and Steven as soon as Medina exited the room. It was raw, emotional stuff. Watch now:

    A woman emotions are more weak from a man and that`s why Jen cried and Steven and Jackson understands that.If your sensitive and you can`t help it when your emotional there`s nothing you can do,i`m sure if i was a judge i`ll do the same thing,i watched the video and i cried alot,imagine if i was there infront of him.I admired her that she kept her tears infront of him but oviously she had to cry after he left cos Medina touched everyone`s heart with his talent and with his story. I love Jennifer and the guys Steven and Jackson really respect her.

    I think this moment actually brought American Idol a moment much needed and desired by many viewers... her "unprofessional breakdown" showed a very human side of judging someone's talent and having to tell them that they either make the cut or they don't. She didn't break down in front of him and start crying hysterically. She did her job, and waited until he left to express her emotions. Personally, I'm not a fan of hers, but I'm glad they showed what happened after he left.

    Chris is such a good singer. This was actually the first time that I had interest in watching American Idol. And it was because I was so amazed with his voice. But I guess I won't have any reason to watch this season.

    I agree that it was sad they had to let him go, but speaking from a professional level, he didn't stand a chance with the 24 that did go through. JLo was clearly upset only because she liked him personally and was touched by his story but she needed to be professional like Randy and Steven were; you didn't see them crying did you?? All the best to Chris and his fiancé.
