Philip Markoff, Accused Craigslist Killer, Commits Suicide in Jail
In a shocking conclusion to an already tragic story, the man known as the Craigslist Killer committed suicide in a Boston jail, according to authorities.
Philip Markoff, a former medical student who was accused of killing a masseuse he met through Craigslist, was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday.
He was pronounced dead at about 10:15 a.m.
The death is still being investigated, but Markoff was alone in his jail cell. Evidence indicates he took his own life, according to a statement by both Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis and Suffolk County D.A. Daniel F. Conley.
Philip Markoff was found suffocated with a plastic bag over his head.
In June, Markoff pleaded not guilty to charges that in April he lured masseuse Julissa Brisman to a Boston hotel, then bound, beat and fatally shot her.
His attorney, John Salsberg, said Sunday, "I'm shocked and saddened by the news" of Markoff's death. The accused criminal was only 24 years old.
Back in April, Markoff was placed on suicide watch after officials expressed concern that this exact scenario would happen. Sadly, it appears it did.

In my opinon it does not matter if it was sucide or murder because he got the eaiser way out thru his death. I am a criminal justice major and I have done many research papers on Markoff, and in all the research I have done never once did I find a time he was sorry for what he did, just sorry he got caught. He should have had more time on this earth in order to show some sign of being sorry for his horrible answer.

Well I am sympathetic for his family and his ex fiance but seriously, this has just saved the tax payers alot of bucks! Speedy justice for all. Clearly the man was mentally ill but why put everyone thru all the trials and tribulations? Its over now.

Note to Morris Wise! You are not so wise!Markoff did not just use a plastic bag. He had a homemade scapel and as a med student he knew exactly where to cut, to bleed out which was the major cause of death not the bag!

Many years ago I tried to commit suicide by placing a plastic bag over my head and then tying the end around my neck. Gasping for breath the bag was pulled off by me. It was tried a few times and resulted in failure. After speaking to others who have tried suicide by the same method I am certain that it is impossible to commit suicide by placing a plastic bag over ones head. If Markoff was found dead in that position he was murdered.
