Back in November, John David married Abbie Burnett in the sort of lavish, massively-attended ceremony that his family has become known for.
On the surface, it looked just like all the other Duggar nuptials we've seen over the years.
But the journey that led John David and Abbie to the altar was unlike anything Duggar fans had seen before.
Many noticed that the couple didn't seem terribly concerned with the infamous Duggar courtship rules that prohibit just about any sort of physical contact prior to marriage.
And now, John David and his new bride are confirming some long-standing rumors about their relationship.
Take a look:
From the beginning of their relationship, it was rumored that John David and Abbie were none too concerned with his parents' ridiculous courtship rules.
The Big Day
John David and Abbie got married in a ceremony that looked just like the many Duggar weddings that came before it.
Breaking the Rules
Fans were quick to notice, however, that John and Abbie's courtship looked very different from anything they'd seen previously.
Specifically, John and Abbie seemed to disregard the courtship rule that prohibits couples from engaging in any sort of physical contact before marriage.
Allow Us to Explain
The Duggars are usually quite secretive about their famously strict code of conduct, particularly when it comes to matters of love and marriage.
John David addressed the matter directly in a preview for the upcoming season of Counting On.
John David's Rules
Over clips of his engagement photoshoot, John David explained that he and Abbie created their own courtship rules.
“We chose to be able to have some contact versus no contact," John tells the camera.
Slow Down, You Two!
I will put my arm around her, give her a hug," he added. "We felt like it is appropriate with where we are in this stage of life."
The Age Factor
"We are about 10 years older than most of siblings when they start a courtship so it feels like we are a little further down the road when it comes to maturity in some areas," JD continued.
“At the beginning of our relationship, John and I sat down and kind of made a list of guidelines for ourselves to keep in relation to how much we touch and things like that with our main goal we wanted to honor God and have no regrets," Abbie elaborated.
Abbie and John David may have decided to allow hugs and hand-holding (Hey, they are in their late 20s, after all.), but they drew the line at kissing.
No Messing Around
John David made that clear, and added that he and Abbie still had “very strict standards on what is okay and what is not okay."
The Big Moment
The season premiere of Counting On will capture John David's proposal to Abbie.
The Plane Truth
“After supper, John said he wanted to take me in to the next room to show me another old plane,” Abbie recalls in the scene.
Isn't It Romantic?
"You know life’s been wonderful since about, what, May 6. We started flying," John tells Abbie.
It's a Metaphor, Y'all
That was the first thing we really did together,” Duggar tells her presenting the ring. “So anyway, I wanted to know if you wanted to keep flying with me?”
That's a Yes!
“I would love to keep flying with you," Abbie responds enthusiastically.
