On September 19th, 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, as first reported by TMZ.

Berlin – February 2006

Jolie adopted Zahara from an Ethiopian orphanage on July 6th, 2005, and Pitt legally adopted her (and older brother, Maddox) in January 2006. The couple (with Zahara and Maddox) are pictured above in Berlin a month after the adoption was complete.

Jolie gave birth to the couple’s first biological child, Shiloh on May 27th, 2006 in Namibia, Africa.

In March 2014, Jolie wrote a piece for the New York Times in which she revealed she’d had surgery to remove ovaries and fallopian tubes “I called my husband in France, who was on a plane within hours,” Jolie wrote of Pitt. “The beautiful thing about such moments in life is that there is so much clarity. You know what you live for and what matters. It is polarizing, and it is peaceful.”
Making It Official

Jolie wore a custom Atelier Versace dress (which featured her children’s artwork) for her wedding to Pitt at their French estate in August 2014.

“It was our way of testing ourselves,” Jolie told the Express in 2015 of making their movie, By The Sea. “We knew that if we could get through this, we’d come out even stronger and happier. And we did. We’ve always liked putting ourselves through challenges, even though it was maybe a little more dangerous for us as a couple. I don’t think we want to go through it again though.”

Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer confirmed on September 20th, 2016 that his client filed for the “dissolution of marriage” on September 19th The decision, Offer said in a statement, “was made for the health of the family,” according to the BBC.
