Even in the age of Peak TV, some of this year’s TV shows were just flat out bad.
Many of them didn’t last past one season, while others still manage to have an audience — somehow.
From the quick flops to the worn out staples, here’s a look at some of the worst TV shows of 2016.
Notorious

To be fair, nothing could have filled the Scandal-sized hole in our hearts — and our Thursday nights. But Notorious didn’t even come close to being a solid replacement while the Shondaland favorite was on its lengthy hiatus.
Heartbeat

Loosely based on the life of Dr. Kathy Magliato, this bizarre medical procedural was pretty much a trainwreck.
Conviction

Despite the fact that Hayley Atwell is incredible, ABC’s Conviction managed to be a total trainwreck, and it’s already been canceled. You can do better, ABC!
The X-Files

Sometimes, a revival series can be a wonderful thing. That wasn’t the case with The X-Files. The brief returns of the series had a couple of good episodes, but mostly, it was a disappointment.
Shadowhunters

Freeform’s Shadowhunters turned out to be a pretty poor adaptation of the young adult book series. Yet another disappointment from this year of television.
Dead of Summer

Ugh. Another disappointment from Freeform this year, Dead of Summer had the potential to be something great. Unfortunately, it didn’t follow through. It was unoriginal and unbearable to watch.
Tyler Perry’s Too Close to Home

TLC’s first scripted series, which comes from Tyler Perry, is nothing but a soapy, poorly-acted mess. Sure, it has some redeemable moments, but this one is hard to watch. Somehow, it’s been renewed for a second season.
Wayward Pines

Wayward Pines, which was originally supposed to be a one-season event series, should have really stopped while it was ahead. There was no reason for this show to have a second season.
Scream Queens

Scream Queens didn’t really have much of a chance after Season 1, but boy did it fumble with Season 2. It was basically a disaster that no one wanted to watch.
Man With a Plan

As much as many of us may have wanted to see Matt LeBlanc on another sitcom, this one falls incredibly flat. It’s not funny, not original, and not entertaining at all.
Kevin Can Wait

Much like Man WIth a Plan, Kevin Can Wait takes a familiar actor and puts him in a cliche, unimaginative sitom role.
The Family

There was a lot of hype around ABC’s The Family, where a boy who everyone thought was dead returns home after a decage. But the result? Pretty horrible.
Castle

Here’s an example of a show that just went on way too long. Castle Season 8 was generally hit or miss, and it was only made worse by the news that a ninth season would not include Stana Katic. It was cancelled before we could see what the new version of the show would look like.
Of Kings and Prophets

Another miss for ABC this year, Of Kings and Prophets was a show we just didn’t need. It was way too soapy, way too cheesey, and altogether a mess.
American Housewife

Where do we begin? American Housewife has a flawed premise, and though it does have its funny and heartwarming moments, it’s generally just hard to watch.
Vinyl

The HBO drama was supposed to be something truly great, but instead, Vinyl never quite found its footing. It was a major disappointment, and definitely one of the worst shows of the year.
