Pulling a Dawnette Knight: ‘VF’s Judith Newman stalks Judith Regan

We always thought getting your own stalker meant you finally made it, but ReganBooks’ Judith Regan doesn’t feel so flattered. At Gen. Tommy Frank’s Monday night book party on the Intrepid, Vanity Fair‘s Judith Newman approached Regan and introduced herself as “your stalker.” Newman, who is writing a profile on Regan for the magazine – without the blood-pressure-inducing book publisher’s cooperation – clearly meant it as a joke, but that didn’t stop Regan from repeating the encounter to others at the event.

Leave it to Graydon Carter to provide special access for his writers – he was the co-host for the American Soldier party. Meanwhile, ReganBooks parent HarperCollins required all employees to sign a confidentiality agreement forbidding them to talk about Regan – a mere “coincidence” and unrelated to Newman’s article.

Hopefully Regan won’t get all Catherine Zeta-Jones and file a lawsuit. (Note: This instance of the verb “Zeta-Jones” refers to filing a lawsuit against stalkers, which is not the same as “Zeta-Jonesing,” which refers to stuffing food in ones face as if it contained zero calories.)
