Beauty Editor Turned Blogger Turned author never turned into a good writer

Two years ago, we wondered what the Jolie In NYC blogger would do after she was outed as Ladies Home Journal beauty editor Nadine Haobsh. We predicted a book deal, especially since her anon-blog all but guaranteed she would never get another job at a woman???s magazine.

Well, we must have publishing ESP, because Haobsh is back with a book, Beauty Confidential. And last night we had a dream about being too tired to work today, and now we are completely exhausted. Seriously, this is getting creepy.

If you want to feel guilty about putting your money toward food and rent instead of your appearance, then this is the book for you. One ???beauty myth??? to dispel yourself of: ???A $25 cut looks the same as a $250 cut.??? Was that even a myth?

A few of you might need to grab some napkins from your office kitchen before reading the tales of a drunk fem-blogger pillow fight at the Byrant Park Hotel.

Seven of NYC’s hottest bloggirls got together in their PJ’s, all giggly and holding wine glasses, to dish about how pissed they are when editors have no idea who they are.

Puking at Schiller’s, running for coffee in a trench coat, and having random people obsessed with you? Just another day in the life of an anorexic girl tied to her lap top.

Whether they blog for their 15 minutes, or just to expunge their neuroses to the world, Rachel Sklar, Jessica Cutler, Brooke Parkhurst, Melissa Lafsky, Mimi Foe, and Heather Hunter spill their blogguts to ring leader Nadine Haobsh.

It turns out to be a pretty fun article, and from what it seems, a happenin’ little soiree. It’s just so fabulous that these girls can afford to “eat” at Da Silvano, wear DVF, and drink K1 and Starbucks on their blogger/stripper/lawyer/daddy’s credit card salaries.

Who knew there was more to a blogger’s life than sweatpants and forties?

Witnessing Nadine Haobsh’s anon-a-blogger story blossom into two jobs lost and professional representation surprised us as much as the next media industry failure, but only because the tale began at Ladies’ Home Journal, which defines “staid” in the publishing biz when Good Housekeeping takes the day off.

But, writes in a reader, does anybody actually know what’s going on inside LHJ? We sure didn’t, and neither does our mother even.

Has anyone in New York actually bothered to read Ladies Home Journal recently???

I hadn’t until the other day. I saw that Kaballah queen Madonna had been on the cover a while back, but I just assumed that’s about as religious as any major magazine got these days.

In the July issue it features the God-spewing best-selling author Rick Warren and his article “3 Ways to Lift Your Spirits.”

Thankfully this concerned glossy page fanatic skimmed the pages for us. From Warren’s piece:

Many of us overlook the need for rest — not for our bodies but for our souls, which is a much deeper kind of relaxation. Spiritual fatigue is the result of trying to live without God. The symptoms are obvious: worry, fear, resentment, and guilt. Neither sleep, nor working out, nor a day off from work will rid you of these draining emotions. Such fatigue requires a spiritual recharging. The Bible says, “He energizes those who get tired.” Only God can restore your soul.

Though to be honest, the only spiritual advice we amass from the publishing industry that we take seriously comes from Seventeen.

Seventeen magazine has been rushing to put that little Nadine Haobsh “incident” behind them. You know the one: Where they extended the Ladies’ Home Journal beauty editor the same position at the Heart magazine, the took it off the table once her anon-a-blog Jolie In NYC was exposed. Yep, that one.

But Atoosa Rubenstein & Co. have finally nailed down her fill in — and it’s a boy! Hopping over from his gig as associate beauty editor at Teen People is the gender-ambiguously named Desi Gallegos, who arrives just in time to watch everyone but him appear on MTV’s Miss Seventeen.

Can’t get enough of Nadine Haobsh’s Jolie in NYC? Switch to MSNBC right about .. now.

Oh, it seems Nadine did tell Seventeen about her blog and the New York Post story coming out.

Says Nadine:

The thing that I think was wrong was that I didn’t come clean with my bosses from the beginning. I think that if I told them that I writing the blog, I could’ve prevented all of this. … The best course of action is to not write about the industry you work in because things can get back to your bosses.

So what’s next for the ex-beauty queen?

I have some meetings with book agents. I’ve been working on a book about the beauty industry. Nothing like The Devil Wears Prada.

Aww, now that’s where we start losing interest.

We’re going to leave you with a quick Jolie in NYC-slash-Nadine Haobsh update. Well, unless something important happens like Fidel Castro expressing his gratefulness to be friends with Elian Gonzalez, but otherwise we’re not checking in till next week.

It turns out Seventeen’s Atoosa Rubenstein, who took anon-a-blogger Nadine’s beauty editor offer off the table, doesn’t hate blogs.

In fact, she might even get one going when the magazine’s MTV reality show Miss Seventeen debuts. That, and she loves this very website, no matter how much crap we give her, so how could she hate blogs?

Well, maybe she hates Nadine’s blog, but we don’t ask hard questions.

• At his age, we’re not sure Mel Brooks has the right to complain about looking good in magazines. No matter what picture Vanity Fair chose, he’d still look grumpy, but isn’t that his shtick?

• That little story of rapper Lucy Diamonds getting harped on by Oprah had all the ringings of a publicity stunt. Oh, and look, it was!

• Jossip lovely Atoosa Rubenstein, fresh from killing Nadine Haobsh’s beauty editor offer at Seventeen, will be getting plenty of screen time on her magazine’s MTV reality show Miss Seventeen. And we. can’t. wait.

Jack Nicholson proved quite the bossy actor on the set of Martin Scorsese’s The Departed, demanding constant script rewrites nearly everyday. Scorsese often had to film Jack’s version and then his own just to placate the diva.

• From the pages of the Post to the, uh, pages of the Post — it’s anon-a-blogger reveal week! In addition to Nadine Haobsh, Richard Johnson & Co. are reveling in their latest reveal: Fashion Week Daily scribe Faran Krentcil, who pens imaginarysocialite.com. Meanwhile, The Transom does some investigative work to get to the bottom of it.

Courtney Love was rushed to the hospital early yesterday morning, which makes it about par for the week.

• Ouch! Elite founder John Casablancas says he’d prefer never to work with Naomi Campbell because of her “really nasty side.” Take a number, buddy.

Media anon-a-bloggers are nothing new, but perhaps nobody outted the magazine publishing industry as the flack-happy institution it really is better than Jolie In NYC. The masked beauty editor at an unnamed title ranted about “Beauty Hierarchy” and her boss who

regularly gets Marc Jacobs wallets and coats, plane ticket vouchers, iPods, overnight stays at the Mandarin Oriental, yearlong gym memberships and, of course, all the free highlights and haircuts your poor, dyed, straightened and styled hair can stand.

And then, she was outted. But it’s actually quite surprising how long the anonymous game lasted, since she started her blog by emailing 30 friends, some in public relations, right away revealing her identity to professional chatterers. Which explains why a beauty publicist at Siren sent out a mass email on Monday, unintentionally revealing Jolie’s identity.

So who is she? She’s 24-year-old former Lucky staffer and (now former) Ladies Home Journal beauty editor Nadine Haobsh, who got axed as soon as her bosses at the Seven Sisters title found out. (And her blog has since been deleted.)

The best part: Haobsh doesn’t understand why they cared. It’s like revealing the sacred secrets of how thin the industry is wasn’t a bloody uppercut.

Nadine started the site hoping to land a book deal, which she better hope for. Because even though our Jolie fawning rivals Claynation, she’s got a case of Media Blogging Syndrome: Nobody will hire you when you trash them on your blog. Hrmm, sounds familiar.

Meanwhile, LHJ editor Diane Salvatore has issued this missive to staffers:
