The makers of TiVo have been closely analyzing their data for the past four weeks and have accurately predicted who would be eliminated each of the last four weeks from American Idol. This week they predicted that Syesha Mercado would get the boot.
According to a company spokesman, TiVo has analyzed second-by-second audience measurement to determine which performers had the lowest viewership. TiVo tracked the data from 20,000 random anonymous subscribers. The contestants who get fast forwarded the most are the ones who end up leaving.
In addition to predicting Syesha’s dismissal, TiVo predicts teen David Archuleta is headed for stardom. According to TiVo, Archuleta has consistently had the highest audience viewing numbers during his performances. The Idol show does not provide detail on how the top performers rank – sharing only the bottom three each week.
Only one thing wrong with TiVo’s prediction – it turned out to be wrong. While Syesha Mercado ended up in the bottom three, she is safe for another week. The eliminated contestant was Michael Johns.
