Texas Stadium, the former home of the Dallas Cowboys, was reduced to rubble at 7:07 a.m. CDT today in Irving, Texas. All that was left standing after the 25 second implosion were 3 buttresses that were hung up on debris that will be easily dealt with according to the demolition crew.
A crowd of 20,000 gathered to witness the destruction, with many participating in tailgate parties.
The stadium was built for a price tag of $35 million, opening in 1971 and closing in December 2008. The Dallas Cowboys played 38 seasons in the facility, winning 5 Super Bowls during those years. The aging structure was replaced by the $1.15 billion Cowboys Stadium that opened on May 27, 2009 in Arlington, Texas.
