Several hours after backing out on a planned sit down interview with Matt Lauer on the TODAY Show, Paula Deen and her handlers filmed what appeared to be a highly edited video apology.

A media storm erupted earlier this week after the Food Network chef admitted during a court deposition that she used the N-Word when referring to her restaurant’s black waitstaff employees – details here.

In an attempt to stem the bad press, Paula posted a 46-second film clip containing five poorly edited segments that were separated by flashes.

Deen looked frazzled and extremely stressed as she stammered while delivering this short statement: “I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I’ve done. I want to learn and grow from this. Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable.”

She continued, “I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners — I beg for your forgiveness. Please forgive me for the mistakes I’ve made.”

After viewing the footage our first reaction was that Paula might want to consider getting a different PR team to help her through this debacle … for reasons that will be readily apparent to anyone who views the video footage.

UPDATE: In another crushing blow for the food maven, the Food Network revealed Friday that they will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of June.
