Father cuts a plea deal …
Keith Brown, the 55-year-old Utah Morman father of The 5 Browns musical group and their former manager, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing his three daughters in the 1990’s.
The classical piano musical group is comprised of Brown’s two sons Ryan and Gregory, and the three daughters that he sexually abuse when they were children. They all attended Julliard musical conservatory and are signed with the RCA Red Seal label as Steinway Artists.
The three sisters, Desirae, 32, Deondra, 30, and Melody, 26, accused their father of sexual abuse that occurred beginning in 1990 for the two older daughters and went on for two years. They were 11 and 9 when their father first initiated sexual contact with them. The youngest of the three sisters reported to authorities that her abuse took place between March 1997 and March 1998 – when she was 12.
Under a plea agreement, Brown pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree felony sodomy and two counts of second-degree felony child abuse. He faces sentencing of 10-years to life on the first-degree offense and 1-15 years on each second-degree offense, all to be run concurrently.
There is no statute of limitations in Utah to prevent prosecutors from filing sex crime charges that occurred years ago. The plea deal that Brown made will save the family from having to testify at a trial. The daughters reported the abuse in early February.
