Hillary Clinton made points with Saturday Night Live last week when she gave them a plug on national television during her debate with Barack Obama. She related the previous weeks skit on SNL where they inquired about Obama’s level of comfort and offered him a pillow.
Saturday afternoon she left the campaign trail in Texas and flew back to New York, albeit briefly, to be on hand for the taping of SNL. The opening skit tonight was a fake presidential debate hosted by actors playing Brian Williams and Tim Russert. Williams and Russert fawned over Obama, while Amy Poehler, as Hillary Clinton, became somewhat prickly.
After the debate, instead of the opening credits, there was an “Editorial Response.” The real Senator Clinton, seated at a desk and dressed like Poehler’s Clinton, complemented the skit and expressed her pleasure getting to be in New York, if only for a few hours. Then Amy Poehler, still in character as the senator, joined Clinton at the desk. They chatted, during which time Clinton asked Poehler if she really laughed like Poehler’s Clinton and asked for her jewelry back. The New York Senator then said, “Live from New York it’s Saturday night!”
