Green Day has cancelled the remainder of their 2012 club dates and have opted to postpone their 2013 arena tour until at least March 2013.
The group has been in a holding pattern for the past five weeks following frontman Billie Joe Armstrong‘s meltdown on stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Sept 21.
The lead singer entered a rehab facility two days later for treatment of substance abuse and is continuing to seek help for addiction issues.
A new press release was posted this morning on their website: “Green Day announced today they will cancel their club tour. Additionally, Green Day will postpone all scheduled appearances for the months of January and February 2013. New dates for these rescheduled shows will be announced shortly and previously purchased tickets will be honored on the new dates.”
“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern. We are happy to report that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”
There was some good news for fans. The group has decided to move up the release date of their new album Tre! from mid-January to Dec. 11, 2012.
