Eddie Murphy will reportedly skip the Los Angeles premiere of his latest flick Meet Dave tonight. The actor is said to be working on another project in Los Angeles and plans to be on the set of the Dreamworks film A Thousand Words.

Very seldom do we hear that the principal in a movie has opted not to show at an LA premiere. The promotion of a movie is part of an actors contractual obligation. That being said, we can read between the lines here and assume that Murphy has had a falling out with the earlier project or is distancing himself from what he perceives will be a box office flop. In either case, it looks BAD.

Access Hollywood reports that cast members representing Meet Dave tonight will be Elizabeth Banks and Gabrielle Union. There is also a report that Magic Johnson plans to be on hand for the screening.

The gigantic blowup replica of Murphy ‘with a big head’ has been on display in Times Square in NYC to promote the Meet Dave movie – perhaps we’re looking at ‘art imitating life’.

The actor wed girlfriend Tracey Edmonds in a private, non-binding ceremony on an island in Bora Bora between Christmas and New Years 2007. When it came time to make it official in the U.S. two weeks later, Murphy reportedly balked because his island bride wouldn’t sign a prenuptial agreement. She has since moved on and has her sights set on Sean Diddy Combs.
