There will be no more “Rock of Love” for Poison frontman Bret Michaels. The rocker proposed to longtime on-again off-again girlfriend Kristi Lynn Gibson at his ranch outside of Scottsdale, AZ, 4th of July weekend.
“Bret felt like now was the time because Kristi has been through so much with Bret and has been by his side every step of the way,” a source told Star magazine.
Michaels, 47, has suffered several major medical issues recently and “he’s woken up,” says the source. “He now knows he wants to be a husband.”
Bret, who was diagnosed with diabetes at age 6, was hospitalized for an emergency appendectomy on April 12, 2010. Less than two weeks later, he was again rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered he had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage.
Michaels was readmitted to the hospital in May after experiencing numbness on the left side of his body. Tests revealed he has a hole in his heart. He will undergo surgery in January.
“As painful as this experience has been, I was given a second chance, right? I don’t want to sit around every night worrying this is going to happen again. What I want to do is make a positive bucket list and say, ‘I’m just gonna go for it.’ There’s just so much more I want to do and experience,” Michaels said in an earlier interview.
“, for sure, is something I have never done. Kristi’s such a great person. We’ll see if that happens. But yes, that may be one of the big things on the list. My first goal is to get back (to) 100 per cent. I want to continue to rock the world, and I want to continue to love my family and be a good father,” he continued.
Bret and Kristi have dated off and on for 16 years, and have two daughters, Raine Elizabeth, age 10, and Jorja Bleu, age 5. There is reportedly no wedding date set at this time.
