Grammy-award winning singer Alicia Keys has been chosen to perform the national anthem in New Orleans on Feb. 3, Super Bowl Sunday.

She is currently riding high after the release of her fifth studio album, ‘Girl on Fire.’ During her thirteen year career she has sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

The NFL reported in October that Beyonce would be heading up the Pepsi Halftime Show. Multiple sources say she will reunite with Destiny’s Child during a performance that will be viewed by 150 million people.

Regarding the task of leading the stadium in a rendition of the national anthem, Keys is among an elite group of entertainers who have been tapped to perform. Other notables include Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond and Mariah Carey.

During the 2011 Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas, Christina Aguilera flubbed her lines and later took a thrashing on Twitter for the snafu.

Xtina isn’t alone. Country singer Luke Bryan was taking no chances when he belted out the Star Spangled Banner last July during the MLB All-Star game, sneaking more than one peek at the crib notes he had scrawled on his hand. He later apologized and remarked that the “pressure to be patriotic” during a public venue had him living in fear that he would forget the words.
