Baby makes three …
Alexis Stewart welcomed a daughter Jude on Tuesday. The baby girl, the first grandchild of Martha Stewart, was born via gestational carrier.
The relationship between mother and daughter has been anything but typical and it looks like the grandmother-child relationship will also be a bit different.
Alexis, 45, announced on her radio show: “Martha is going to be called, ‘Martha.'” Apparently it wasn’t the kitchen maven who came up with that. The new mother admits: “She seemed to have no problem with it … I was like, ‘Do you really want to be ‘grandma’? I don’t like the term grandma!”
The strong-willed daughter took the opportunity to get snarky about her mother’s generosity: “She was born at 1 in the morning … and Martha brings this huge box from Bergdorf Goodman. I open it and I look inside and it’s full of baby clothes, all with embroidery, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I guess I’m going to be allowed to buy myself something pretty nice because all of this stuff’s going back!”
She wasn’t finished yet: “If the kid can’t see it, why the $100 clothes. Only books, child appropriate or whatever: that’s the only thing that I want. No toys please!”
She also sniped: “You’re not getting her weight and length. It’s rude!”
According to her latest ‘tweet’, Alexis has live-in help to assist with her newborn: “Now I have someone to cook for!! (the baby nurse .. lol)”
Martha shared the good news on Friday’s Martha Stewart Show: “They’re home in New York in their apartment and I stopped in last night after a business trip and I got to see her when she was about 36 hours old. She is very alert and doesn’t cry – ideal baby!”
Alexis will undoubtedly find fault with Martha’s latest soundbite. We’re already feeling sorry for Grandma Martha — it looks like she’s in for a decidedly rough ride ahead.
