FOX news correspondent Jennifer Griffin has been noticeably absent from her national security beat for nearly a year, waging her own battle against Stage 3 breast cancer. She returned today with a splash, interviewing General David Petraeus in Afghanistan.

She was wrapping up her report on Studio B when host Shepard Smith asked her about her return. An emotional Griffin said: “I must say I’ve been on the verge of tears all day because I’ve had so many warm wishes from everyone there, and I must thank everyone. It’s very emotional for me to be back. Now you’re going to get me all teared up.”

The 41-year-old reporter is married to Greg Myre, a fellow journalist who reports for the Associated Press and The New York Times. The couple have two daughters and a son.

Jennifer discovered a lump while nursing her new baby Luke in September 2009. The aggressive nature of her condition forced her to leave the airwaves while pursuing treatment.

Griffin was featured Sunday in a special interview with Chris Wallace – see that report after the jump.
