A federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia has handed down a six-count indictment against former baseball pitcher Roger Clemens. The case has been assigned to Judge Reggie Walton.
The 48-year-old veteran player, known as “Rocket”, was charged with one count of obstruction, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury. If convicted, Clemens could be sentenced to 21-months in prison, and would be ineligible for future induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The seven-time Cy Young Award winner and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, testified under oath at a congressional hearing in 2008. Clemens testified that he had not used banned substances.
McNamee, in contradictory testimony, told investigators that he personally injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormones repeatedly from 1998 to 2001.
Clemens married his wife Debra Lynn Godfrey in 1984. Roger and Debbie posed for a HOT Sports Illustrated pictorial spread featuring athletes and their wives. The photos, though done in 2003, are still a popular internet search.
The couple have four sons: Koby Aaron, Kory Allen, Kacy Austin, and Kody Alec.
