The 82nd Annual Academy Award nominations were announced this morning by Academy president Tom Sherak and actress Anne Hathoway. The awards show will air from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, March 7, 2010 with hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

The Academy Awards, widely known as the Oscars, recognize excellence in the film industry among directors, actors and writers. The first ceremony was held in 1929 and was hosted by Douglas Fairbanks.

Best Actress nominees are Sandra Bullock for her role in “The Blind Side”. Joining her in this category are Helen Mirren in “The Last Station”, Carey Mulligan in “An Education”, Gabourey Sidibe in “Precious”, and Meryl Streep in “Julie & Julia”.

Bullock and Streep shared Best Actress honors at the Critics Choice Awards — delighting the crowd when they locked lips to seal the deal.
