The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards were held on Sunday, September 20, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The CBS broadcast was hosted by actor Neil Patrick Harris.

Awards were given in five genre: Comedy, Drama, Reality Show, Mini Series and Variety, Music & Comedy. Taking top honors in the Comedy category again this year was 30 Rock. Individual awards went to Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) and Toni Collette (United States of Tara) for Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy. The Collette win was a bit of a shocker, with many expecting Tina Fey to win the category.

Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy went to Jon Cryer (Two-and-a-half Men) and Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies). The visibly shaken Chenoweth had to be treated backstage by paramedics after she was reportedly stricken with a migraine.

Winning the Drama category again was Mad Men. Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama were Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Glenn Close (Damages). Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama were Michael Emerson (Lost) and Cherry Jones (24).

The Outstanding Mini Series went to Grey Gardens. Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Mini Series went to Ken Howard (Grey Gardens) and Jessica Lange (Grey Gardens).

Other winners included Justin Timberlake and Tina Fey (SNL) for Outstanding Guest Actor and Actress in a Comedy. Outstanding Reality Show was The Amazing Race. Outstanding Reality Show host honors went to Jeff Probst (Survivor). Jon Stewart (Daily Show) won two awards in the Outstanding Variety, Music, Comedy Series for writing and best show.
