Seventeen-year-old Melanie Oudin went head-to-head against 27-year-old Russian Nadia Petrova in the 4th round of the U.S. Open on Monday, September 7, at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The Cinderella story continues for the Marietta, Georgia teen who beat Petrova 1-6, 7-6, 6-3. She is the youngest American female to get into the quarter finals in the past 10 years.
Oudin has knocked off four Russian players, beating out Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 4th seed Elena Dementieva in the first two rounds and was victorious on Saturday against 29th seeded Maria Sharapova 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
In her post-match interview on Monday, Oudin said, “It was tough because she was all over me. I kept fighting, I just kept fighting.”
