The Oregon Ducks starting tailback LeGarrette Blount lost his cool last night after an ugly game against the Boise State Broncos. The show put on by Blount got him dragged off the field by Ducks personnel and stadium security.
After an upsetting loss last season to Boise, Blount went into this game telling Sports Illustrated, “We owe that team an ‘ass-whupping'”. The game that was supposed to be a prime-time shootout, turned into a sloppy opener that ended with an embarrassing 19-8 loss for the Ducks. According to SI, “you know your team’s had a rough night when it goes the entire first half without gaining a first down.”
LeGarrette sucker punched sophomore defensive lineman Byron Hout in the jaw right in front of Broncos coach Chris Petersen, which was filmed by an ESPN camera crew. Knowing full well this outburst would cost him a suspension on his way off the field, Blount freaked out and hit one of his own players while scuffling with several Boise fans who were heckling him. He was promptly removed from the scene by Ducks personnel and dragged into the locker room.
This isn’t the first time that Blount has been suspended. An “academic issue” kept him off the field earlier this year. No word on what sanctions Chip Kelly will be leveled against Blount for what is now being referred to as the Boise State Punch but they are likely to be swift and painful for the college player.
