The orange plastic wristband you may have noticed American Idol constestant David Cook wearing, has a very special meaning to a little girl in Tampa, FL.

7-year-old Lindsey Rose Belcher, who was diagnosed with leukemia last Christmas, is a huge David Cook fan. When her father, WTVT Channel 13 reporter, Charley Belcher, was asked to cover the show the first week of March, he told Cook that he was Lindsey’s favorite Idol and told him about her condition.

The 25-year-old rocker from Tulsa, OK said, “Let’s call her and make her day!” Lindsey squealed with delight on the other end of the phone as David gave her words of encouragement.

Belcher told Cook about the orange (Lindsey’s favorite color) wristbands he had made as a symbol of support and inspiration for family and friends with “Lindsey Rose” printed on one side and “Do Whatcha Gotta Do” on the other. David asked if he could have one of the wristbands and told Charley to have Lindsey watch for it on American Idol.

“He’s worn it every week since, and my daughter gets just as excited each time,” says Charley. “What David has done is a small gesture that means the world to a little girl who can forget she has cancer for a little while — and that’s what it’s all about.”
